Nawkaw Inc. is seeking an experienced Stain Technician (Painter) to lead field crews on commercial construction and exterior finish projects in Indianapolis, IN.

This hands-on leadership role requires running work in the field, keeping a crew productive, and delivering high-quality results safely and efficiently. Ideal candidates will have journeyman painting experience, prior crew leadership, and the ability to travel for work.

Job description

Experienced Stain Technician (Painter) — Crew Lead (Location for hiring is Indianapolis, IN)

Nawkaw is hiring an experienced Stain Technician (Painter) to lead field crews on commercial construction and exterior finish projects. This is a hands‑on leadership role for a journeyman‑level painter who knows how to run work in the field, keep a crew productive, and deliver high‑quality results safely and efficiently.

This position is best suited for someone with strong painting or construction experience, prior crew leadership experience, and the ability to travel for work. Some projects are local, but steady full‑time work may require overnight or extended travel depending on project schedules.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and work alongside a crew on active jobsites.
  • Oversee jobsite setup, substrate preparation, application work, cleanup, tools, equipment, and daily production.
  • Maintain quality, safety, organization, and productivity in the field.
  • Communicate clearly with Project Managers and team members.
  • Operate and care for company vehicles, tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Represent Nawkaw professionally with customers, contractors, and jobsite teams.
What We’re Looking For
  • Journeyman‑level painting experience, preferably in commercial, industrial, exterior, construction, concrete, masonry, staining, coatings, or specialty finish work.
  • Prior experience leading painters, field technicians, or construction crews.
  • Ability to travel for work, including overnight and out‑of‑town projects.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company vehicle insurance requirements.
  • Ability to pass a post‑offer background check and meet motor vehicle record requirements.
  • Ability to pass drug testing when required by customer, contract, project, or jobsite requirements, including THC or similar contract‑mandated requirements where applicable.
  • OSHA 30 certification required or ability to obtain as required.
  • For New York / Northeast projects, SST 40‑Hour card or ability to obtain as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, work at heights, work outdoors, and perform physically demanding field work.
  • Strong attention to detail, dependability, communication, and follow‑through.
