FACILITY OPERATIONS-IUB (BL-PHYP-IUBLA)
Job Summary
- Applies paints, primers, stains and finishes to interior andexterior surfaces (walls, ceilings, staircases, equipment,etc.).
- Prepares coating materials by tinting, toning, matching andblending to obtain desired color or consistency; mix in variousadditives such as retardants, hardeners, drying agents, etc.
- Prepares surfaces to accept finishes by patching holes, cracksand joints with caulk, putty, plaster or other filler; strips,scrapes, sands or power washes to remove old finish and cleansurface.
- Strips, sands, seals and finishes doors, furniture, woodwork,trim and flooring.
- Removes graffiti; removes, repairs and installs wall coverings.May perform stenciling and dado work.
- Erects scaffolding in safe manner according to siteconditions.
- Performs other general building maintenance as assigned.
- May supervise hourly workers.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years of verifiable painting experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
- Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by IndianaUniversity upon date of hire.
- Certification to erect and disassemble scaffolding.

- Ability to use ladders and hand tools of the trade such as;brushes, rollers, scrapers, caulking guns, putty knives, etc.
- Ability to safely use solvents, cleaners, abrasives and othermaterials that may pose health hazards to the user and others inthe vicinity.
- Ability to calculate proper amounts of materials and equipmentto complete projects.
- Knowledge of standard painting and finishing applicationprocedures.
- Knowledge of lead abatement practices preferred (may berequired for some positions).
- Ability to use a computer.
- Ability to work with wide variety of cultures andbackgrounds.
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary positionas well as the ability to move about the workplace for longdurations. It requires effective communication, the ability tooperate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires theability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position oneselfin low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases.The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move intight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person inthis role must be able to perform the essential functions with orwithout an accommodation.
