Job summary

Fravert Services Inc. in Birmingham, AL is seeking an experienced Painter to join our shop. You will spray-finish large signs and monuments, mix colors from formulas, and manage masking and detail work for multi-color pieces.

Work alongside our Senior Painter, with training on our process. Ideal candidates have 3–5 years in industrial painting or sign painting, comfort with HVLP spray systems, and a strong eye for color matching and finish quality.

Description

Fravert builds custom signs and monuments, and we're looking for an experienced Painter to join our shop. You'll spray-finish large signs and monument structures, mix your own colors, and handle the masking and detail work that multi-color pieces require.

This role works alongside our Senior Painter, who will train you on our process. If you've done industrial painting, auto body refinishing, or sign painting, you'll recognize most of what we do and can get up to speed quickly.

• Spray-paint large signs, monuments, and structures using HVLP (high-volume, low-pressure) equipment
• Apply single-stage finishes and base coat/clear coat systems to a consistent, production-quality standard
• Mix paint colors from formulas using a computerized paint mixing system, including Pantone and custom color matches
• Mask, tape, and wrap pieces for multi-color jobs, removing and re-masking between colors with clean, sharp lines
• Paint pieces both laid flat and standing upright, working from ladders or an aerial lift when needed
• Prep surfaces and clean and maintain spray equipment and the paint area
• Plan your time and materials for each job and complete work by assigned deadlines
• Inspect finished work for defects and handle repaints when needed
• Learn from and support the Senior Painter, taking direction on priorities and techniques
• Follow all shop safety practices, including proper use of PPE and respirators

Requirements

Required

• 3–5 years of painting experience in industrial painting, auto body or automotive refinishing, or sign painting
• Hands-on experience with HVLP spray equipment
• Experience mixing paint from formulas and matching colors
• Comfortable painting large items, not just small parts
• Strong attention to detail, especially with masking, taping, and multi-color work
• Ability to work independently on deadlines while taking direction from a senior team member
• A steady work history and a dependable attendance record

Preferred

• Sign industry experience
• Familiarity with automotive or sign paint lines such as Matthews Paint, AkzoNobel, or Sherwin-Williams Automotive
• Experience with single-stage and base coat/clear coat systems
• Experience with a computerized color mixing system (such as MIXIT)
• Trade school or manufacturer paint training

  Physical Requirements

  • Lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Climb and work from ladders up to about 10 feet and work from an aerial lift or man basket
  • Stand, bend, reach, and kneel for extended periods
  • Work in an open shop environment and wear a respirator and other required PPE

  Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m
