Job summary

AutoNation is seeking a Paint Technician Trainee to assist the Paint Team Lead in preparing vehicle surfaces for painting, masking areas not to be painted, and ensuring quality workmanship. You will mix paints per specs and help maintain compliance with safety and environmental rules.

The role offers hands-on training, potential OEM/ICAR certification paths, and opportunities to advance into Paint Technician or leadership roles within our nationwide network.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license is required and a passion for cars and customer service is essential.
  • Ability to operate an automobile and demonstrate safety awareness.
  • Commitment to high-quality craftsmanship and meeting quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing vehicles and parts for painting, with direction from Paint Team Lead.
  • Masking parts that are not to be painted or coated.
  • Sanding and priming vehicles and parts as appropriate.
  • Removing rust and grease from work surfaces.
  • Mixing all paint and chemicals according to manufacturer directions/specifications.
  • Review all work with painter.
  • Understand and follow OSHA and other regulations affecting Collision Center operations.
  • Gaining superior product knowledge to provide high quality repairs.

What are the daily job responsibilities?

  • What are the requirements for the Paint Technician Trainee?

  • ICAR certification (preferred) or interest to become certified.

  • OEM certification (preferred) or interest to become certified.

  • Must have a valid, in-state driver’s license with an acceptable, safe driving record.

  • Ability to operate an automobile.
