Job summary

Axalta seeks a Paint Technician, Automotive to support a high-volume customer in the commercial vehicle segment. The role is onsite at the customer location in Toledo, OH and focuses on paint-related duties and technical guidance.

The successful candidate will oversee topcoat operations, collect data, troubleshoot painting issues, and collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure quality and timely delivery. Travel up to 15% may be required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required; additional Engineering/Technical education preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years in paint application and/or manufacturing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation of the topcoat, run tests, collect and record material data, and monitor paint systems.
  • Maintain communication with manufacturing and engineering at customer sites.
  • Provide technical direction and assistance on product lines.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve painting issues; recommend improvements.
  • Assist customers in overcoming line problems; gather data and samples for analysis.
  • Assist with daily paint consumption, invoices, inventory, and paint ordering.
  • Collect viscosity, temperature, and appearance data using Wave Scan and film-build devices; analyze results.
  • Regularly report data summary to internal teams and customers; flag deviations.
  • Support monthly plant quality reports and advise on specification/appearance ranges.
  • Assist with on-site inventory and product orders; support customer projects and test requests.
  • Build relationships at all levels to help the team deliver value.

Job Summary: The Technical Service Specialist role is to support and solidify long-term retention of an existing high-volume customer in the commercial vehicle segment. This role will be onsite at the customer location, and primary responsibilities include day-to-day management of various paint-related duties listed in the job responsibilities below.

Work Location

This role requires an onsite presence at Axalta's customer location based in Toledo, OH and is not eligible for relocation nor sponsorship.

Expected Compensation

We consider an individual's qualifications, skillset, and experience to determine final salary. This role is eligible for benefits such as health insurance and paid time off. The expected compensation range for this position is $70,000 - $85,000 annually. The actual offer will be at the company's sole discretion and determined by relevant business considerations, including the final candidate's qualifications, years of experience, skillset, and geographic location.

Key Responsibilities
  • O versee the operation of all topcoat. This includes but is not limited to running tests on material, collecting and recording material data. Measure and monitor paint systems for inventory, functionality, and start-up or shut-down issues. Evaluate color, appearance, and film build on production units within plant.
  • Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
    • Support relationships with both manufacturing and engineering at customer sites.
    • Maintain key communication regarding daily projects and line issues.
    • Provide technical direction and assistance to customers on the use of product lines.
    • Possess working knowledge of paint technologies.
    • Respond to questions and concerns regarding product lines and general operations.
    • Troubleshoot & resolve painting issues and problems by provide recommendations on issues related to product, application, inventory and general paint process.
    • Assist customer to overcome line problems. Gather data and material samples for analysis, testing and reporting.
    • Assist with daily paint consumption, invoices, inventory, and paint ordering.
    • Communicate data collection including (but not limited to): Viscosity and Temperature data, appearance data using Wave Scan and film build collection devices. Collect and understand how to analysis the data.
    • Regularly report data collection results summary internally and to the customer if required. Notify appropriate parties if data reveals results outside of expectations.
    • Support monthly plant quality reports for customers. Make recommendations regarding specification ranges (i.e. viscosity) and quality ranges (i.e. appearance limits, color tolerances).
    • Assist with customer demand forecast, on-site inventory and product orders.
    • Support customer projects (LWRs) and test requests. Follow up with chemist for all details. Review and understand results. If requested, report out results with customer.
    • Build relationships at all levels, help team deliver value.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma/GED is required. Additional education/college degree in Engineering/Technical field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years Paint application and/or manufacturing experience.
  • Automotive Coatings industry alignment a plus.
  • Additional experience with automotive painting equipment is highly preferred.
  • The ideal candidate must have an understanding of technical (lab, research, etc.) principles and practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills is required.
  • The ideal candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while handling multiple projects at any given time.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) preferred.

Travel required: up to 15% (development/growth training, training of other employees and coverage at other locations).
