Job summary

Carboline is seeking a Paint Technician in St. Louis, MO to join our Research & Development team, supporting corrosion-resistant coatings and fireproofing product development. You will work with experienced lab professionals to assist in day-to-day operations, quality and performance testing, and documentation.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing, data collection, and collaboration across cross-functional teams within a global coatings company known for safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of at least one year of college-level chemistry coursework or 1-3 years of relevant laboratory experience preferred.
  • Must pass a Jaeger Eye Test.

Responsibilities

  • Operate laboratory instruments and equipment while following established testing procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, organized laboratory notes and documentation; assist with report writing as needed.
  • Conduct quality control testing, grade test panels, and collect data for product evaluation and troubleshooting.
  • Utilize laboratory computer systems for reporting, formula calculations, graphics, and inventory tracking.
  • Support the preparation and evaluation of lab-scale batches according to prescribed formulas.
  • Learn and apply coating techniques using spray, roller, and brush methods.
  • Reference and follow Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for raw materials and finished goods.
  • Adhere to all safety, environmental, and quality procedures, including proper use of PPE and hazardous material handling.
  • Proactively identify hazards, support injury prevention efforts, and report incidents promptly.
  • Collaborate positively with team members, supervisors, and cross-functional partners.
  • Complete required training (including RCRA Hazardous Waste and Contingency Plan) and apply it in daily work.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to company safety and quality standards

Summary

Join our Research & Development team and play a hands‑on role in developing and improving corrosion‑resistant coatings, linings, and fireproofing products. In this role, you'll work alongside experienced lab professionals to support day‑to‑day operations, contribute to product development, and help ensure quality and performance standards are met.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of at least one year of college‑level chemistry coursework or 1‑3 years of relevant laboratory experience preferred
  • Must pass a Jaeger Eye Test
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Exposure to various chemicals, including but not limited to amines, polyamides, isocyanates, epoxies, alkyds, acrylics, and certain inorganic compounds
  • Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times
  • Must be able to pass an annual respirator medical evaluation and pulmonary function test in accordance with OSHA regulations
