Job summary

Albar Industries in Michigan is seeking a Paint Quality Technician to operate and maintain advanced paint and robotic systems, monitor production processes, and support a safe and collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities include inspecting finishes, verifying color accuracy with X-Rite Spectrophotometer and Macbeth booths, and documenting process data while communicating with team members to drive quality improvements.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret graphs, charts, diagrams and process documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to accurately evaluate color, gloss, and paint finish quality.

Responsibilities

  • Perform paint color changes and clean paint gun caps and related equipment as scheduled.
  • Monitor paint process parameters, including paint passes, atomizing air, fan air, and fluid rate settings.
  • Measure and report Wet Film Thickness (WFT) and document process settings and deviations.
  • Inspect painted products for defects such as runs, sags, orange peel, fisheyes, craters, dirt contamination, and light coverage.
  • Verify paint colors using color charts, templates, Macbeth light booths, and X-Rite Spectrophotometer equipment.
  • Stop production and notify supervision when quality issues or process deviations are identified.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining work instructions and production documentation.
  • Utilize MRP systems for labeling, shop orders, and production scheduling.
  • Collect, enter, and analyze production data using Microsoft Office and other business software.
  • Maintain effective communication with team members and supervisors.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and participate in corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support cross-functional teams and contribute to company quality and environmental objectives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support production and organizational goals.

  • Experience in automotive or industrial manufacturing (preferred).
  • Ability to stand and walk on concrete floors for extended periods, frequently handle and manipulate parts and equipment, occasionally lift up to 30 pounds, and distinguish colors and gloss levels accurately.
