The Paint Application Operator is responsible for working as a member of a team, painting component parts to company specifications and customer expectations consistent with the Bilstein’s quality and productivity standards. This position requires the operator to physically lift up to 40 lbs. throughout the shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a safe working environment by complying with all safety and environmental policies in the workplace. Advocates for and promotes a safe work environment by reporting Near Misses and/or other safety and environmental hazards, wearing all required PPE and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Manually hand paints product utilizing high-volume low-pressure (HVLP) sprayer supplied by automatic mixing system. Requires a sufficient understanding of the functional operation of the paint line as well as the finished product. Engineered exhaust system in area prevents requirement for respirator.
  • Manages all aspects of the main electrostatic application booth such as adjusting set ups for part changes, performing equipment preventative maintenance, testing coating properties, and testing physical properties of coated samples.
  • Maintains frequent visual inspections on all product for proper appearance and cosmetic defects. Tags any non-conforming parts with re-work labels, places in re-work bin, and notifies Team Leader.
  • Maintains a clean workstation and cleans-up production areas as required.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn other functions within the paint line.
  • Follows all safety guidelines and wears all Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Proactively addresses situations and takes into consideration the feelings, opinions and thoughts of others.
  • Communicates ideas and problems to engineers.
  • Completes tasks as directed by manufacturing schedules and within standard times.
  • Adhering to the work schedule as assigned, including arriving to work and being ready to work by shift start time, to ensure operational needs to the business are met.
  • Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned by Line/Team Leads or any other member of the management team.
Your profile

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Possesses a stable work history, preferably in a manufacturing environment, and a strong personal desire to work safely and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Demonstrates a strong customer focus along with a great work ethic and willingness to do what needs to be done (without taking shortcuts.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic math, including working with decimals, and strong mechanical aptitude. Possesses a logical method of problem solving and willingness to learn and improve one’s skills. Demonstrates a strong commitment to meet and exceed customer requirements at all times.
  • Must maintain regular and reliable attendance for all scheduled shifts, including overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet business demands.
  • Possesses good hand-eye coordination and is able to perform detailed work with a strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Uses time wisely and is accountable to self and the team.
  • Position is required to be able to lift up to 40 pounds, perform repetitious duties and walk or stand for long periods of time on a daily basis.
  • Ability to read and understand blue prints and work instructions.
  • Demonstrated reliability, good initiative, committed, and quality focused.
  • Highly organized with ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Exhibits integrity through fair and ethical behaviors in all activities; maintains accountability for performance.

Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. and be able to read, write, and speak in English.

General Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, up to 8-12 hours per shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, perform repetitious duties and walk or stand for long periods of time on a daily basis.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching to access materials and operate equipment.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements for paint application tasks.
  • Sufficient grip strength and dexterity to safely operate and control a paint sprayer and related tools.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs or ladders as needed in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to perform fine motor tasks while ensuring even application and quality control.
  • Sufficient visual ability to inspect painted surfaces for proper coverage, appearance, and cosmetic defects.
  • Awareness of surroundings in a manufacturing setting with moving equipment and production processes.

Work Environment & Sensory Conditions:

  • Exposure to paint fumes, airborne particles, and industrial noise; engineered exhaust system in the area prevents the requirement for a respirator.
  • Ability to work in a temperature-controlled or varying temperature manufacturing environment.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and other protective gear as needed.
