Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments for Veterans with chronic pain and behavioral-health concerns.
• Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans.

• Provide individual, group, family, and caregiver behavioral services as appropriate.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary pain management team.

• Provide patient education related to pain management and behavioral health.
• Maintain clinical documentation.

Position Overview

New York Harbor VAHCS is seeking 1 Pain Psychologist to provide comprehensive psychological and behavioral health services to Veterans experiencing chronic pain and related behavioral-health concerns.

Position Details

• Position: Pain Psychologist

• Openings: 1 FTE

• Employment: 1099 Contract

• Compensation: $120/hour

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM

• Call: None

Primary Responsibilities

The selected psychologist will:

• Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments for Veterans with chronic pain and behavioral-health concerns.

• Develop individualized, evidence‑based treatment plans.

• Provide evidence‑based interventions, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (CBT-CP)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Biofeedback

  • Mindfulness

  • Psychoeducation

• Provide individual, group, family, and caregiver behavioral services as appropriate.

• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary pain management team.

• Provide psychological consultation and clinical recommendations.

Occasional travel between the two VA locations may be required based on patient volume and the needs of the service team. The majority of services will be provided in person, with some telehealth visits.

Required Qualifications

Education

• PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology

• Degree must be from an APA/CPA‑accredited graduate program

• Completion of an APA/CPA‑accredited predoctoral internship

Professional Experience

• Minimum 2 years of professional psychologist experience

• Experience must include behavioral‑health interventions related to areas such as:

  • Chronic pain

  • Health psychology

  • Behavioral medicine

  • Chronic pain management

Licensure & Certification

• Current, full, unrestricted psychologist license

• Required board certification through the American Board Certification in Clinical Health Psychology (ABCHP)

• Certification may be reflected as Board Certified in Clinical Health Psychology (ABPP) or Diplomate, American Board of Clinical Health Psychology

• Current BLS certification
