Description

UNC Health / North Carolina Pain Management seeks a Pain Management Physician employed through UNC Health Rex. North Carolina Pain Management is a part of The North Carolina Neuroscience and Spine Center.

The North Carolina Neuroscience & Spine Center provides specialized care for individuals with back pain, tailoring treatment solutions to suit each patient’s unique needs. Our dedicated team prioritizes a conservative approach, refraining from rushing into surgical recommendations.

We are committed to exploring all available avenues of treatment, collaborating with a range of experts including pain management specialists, physical therapists, and neurosurgeons to devise a comprehensive care strategy that delivers optimal outcomes.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Discuss medical history with patients to acquire knowledge of healthcare practices.
  2. Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose pain conditions.
  3. Create and discuss a pain management treatment plan with patients.
  4. Treat patients by employing interventional techniques such as injections and/or other devices.
  5. Prescribe medications, if applicable.
  6. Refer patients for laboratory and diagnostic tests. Assess medical results.
  7. Educate patients on pain management and lifestyle changes.
  8. Communicate pertinent medical records to appropriate specialists as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  1. Strong knowledge of pain mechanisms and pharmacology.
  2. Proficient in interventional pain procedures, joint injections, nerve blocks, and epidural injections.
  3. Working knowledge of medical equipment such as C-Arm.
  4. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary care team in a clinic setting.
  7. Strong organizational and time management skills.
  8. Patience, compassion, and the ability to empathize with patients in pain.
  9. Passionate about pain management and dedicated to providing high-quality and safe patient care.
Education & Experience Requirements
  1. A medical degree from an accredited institution.
  2. Valid state medical license.
  3. Board certification in Pain Management.
  4. Dual board certification – Pain Management and Anesthesia (preferred).
  5. Experience with a wide range of pain management practices.
