Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the Pain Medicine Service within Primary Care.

The role focuses on comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment, shared decision-making, and coordination of care for Veterans with chronic pain. The PA will provide diagnostic and clinical care under clinical privileges, participate in interprofessional teams, and support patient education and self-care strategies.

Responsibilities

• The Physician Assistant provides diagnostic and clinical care within clinical privileges.
• Participates in a multidisciplinary Pain Medicine Service Team and supports care for Veterans in Primary Care.
• Promotes self-care and engages patients in treatment planning.
• Performs comprehensive history and physical examinations and initiates treatment when indicated.
• Orders and interprets diagnostic tests as needed.
• Uses prescriptive authority within licensure and documents in the electronic medical record.
• Leads in patient education on pain management strategies.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory standards, including VA/DOD guidelines and Joint Commission standards.
