Job summary

Amtrak in New York is seeking candidates to operate locomotives and trains safely in a 24/7 environment. You will work with crew members and other staff, maintaining vigilance, situational awareness and clear communication to ensure safe, efficient train movement.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, and willingness to undergo extensive training, medical checks, and DOT/FRA compliance. Offers competitive pay under a collective bargaining agreement and excellent benefits.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or GED required.
• Some work experience demonstrates alertness and clear communication.
• Driver’s license not required, but if held must pass motor vehicle record review per DOT rules.
• Engineer Training: 8–10 weeks at Amtrak Training Center in Wilmington, DE; then field training for Crew Base.
• Currently certified Class 1 Train Service Engineers are paid per agreement.
• Subject to medical examinations including random drug and alcohol screenings.
• Must meet FRA vision, color vision, and hearing requirements.
