Job summary

FIRE is seeking undergraduate students for a 10-week paid Summer Internship Program at its Philadelphia office. You'll defend civil liberties, work with multiple teams, and join weekly seminars led by experts in freedom of expression.

The 2027 program runs June 1 through August 6. Interns work full‑time, receive a $6,400 stipend, and may earn extra when acting as counselors for FIRE’s Free Speech Forum.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate students with an interest in free speech and civil liberties.
• Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
• Collaborative, open to feedback, and able to work with a team.

Responsibilities

• Work with student development, defense, policy reform, legislation, development, and media teams on research and admin projects.
• Assist with planning and execution of the Student Network Summer Conference in July 2027 in Philadelphia and lead sessions.
• Serve as a residential counselor during the Free Speech Forum, providing supervision and mentorship.
• Contribute to FIRE’s Newsdesk.
• Learn core rights arguments through weekly seminars with staff and experts.
