Job summary

New Jersey Judiciary invites applicants to join an 8500-member TEAM dedicated to independence, integrity and service. Interns perform clerical, administrative, supportive tasks and customer service in connection with court proceedings. Hours are flexible between 8:30 a.m.

and 4:30 p.m., 35 hours per week maximum, up to 944 hours annually. Pay is $20.00 per hour, with opportunities to gain broad insight into the court system.

SALARY

Hourly rate for this position is $20.00.

This position is limited to a maximum of 35 hours per week, not to exceed 944 hours in a fiscal year. Interns would be required to work a minimum of 10 hours.

The Passaic Vicinage is accepting resumes for paid internship opportunities for Spring 2025, Summer2025, and Fall 2025. The interns will perform a variety of clerical, administrative, supportive tasks, and customer service duties in connection with proceedings instituted before the Court. Interns may also assist with tasks such as, but not limited to, data entry and look-up, filing, and making photocopies. The interns will gain a broad insight and knowledge of the court system. Flexible schedules are available. The selected candidates will treat all personnel, clients, and members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and respect.

Internships may be available for the following divisions: Civil, Criminal, Criminal Pre-Trial Services, Family, Ombudsman, and Operations. Please specify in your cover letter which division you are interested in, as well as any alternatives, and note the semester(s) you are available for an internship opportunity. Hours and days are flexible but must be between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • Prepare filings for judge and staff review, including document retrieval, and providing documents to chambers

Thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree.

Special Note: Unofficial college or university transcript must be included in your application in order to be considered.

Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching. The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds.

Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Special Note: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.

Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act", all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
