Job summary

Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) offers a PAID Civil Engineering College Internship for District 4 during the 2027 Summer Construction Program. Interns work in multiple counties including Akron, Portage, and Mahoning, with hours from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, and a part-time schedule.

Applicants must be enrolled in a Civil Engineering program, maintain good academic standing with at least a 2.0 GPA, and have a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing a Civil Engineering degree and in good academic standing with a minimum of a 2.00 GPA.
• Must show proof of valid driver's license to operate state vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Learn proper procedures for contractor work, safety upgrades, signage, drainage, and concrete/pavement/material testing
• Assist in project report preparations
• Work alongside engineers in the field on projects ranging from simple road reconstruction to complex bridge construction
• Gain hands-on experience and learn civil engineering processes firsthand

Paid Civil Engineering College Internship, District 4 - 2027 Summer Construction Program

Work locations: You would be assigned to a project/projects in either Ashtabula, Mahoning, Portage, Stark, Summit or Trumbull County

If you are currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering program.

To be eligible, you must be in good academic standing, pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering and be able to provide proof of Enrollment Documentation including your GPA.

What You Will Do:

As an ODOT College Intern you may have the following opportunity: Upon graduation, interns are eligible to apply to be an ODOT employee through the Transportation Civil Engineering (TCE) Program. This program gives a new engineer the on-the-job experience, continued education through training and seminars offered at ODOT and the ability to work with Professional Engineers leading towards the requirements necessary in obtaining their P.E. certification. Qualifications

Must currently be enrolled in a college or university, pursuing a Civil Engineering degreeand in good academic standing with a minimum of a 2.00 GPA.Must show proof of valid driver's license in order to operate state vehicle.

The final candidate for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude an applicant from consideration for a position. An assessment of an applicant's prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.

Rate of pay is based upon the student's academic status (determined by the college or university):

• Freshman and Sophomore Students - $19.50 per hour
• Junior and Senior - $20.00 per hour
• Graduate Students - $24.00 per hour

This position is overtime eligible based on FLSA Standards.
