Job summary

Spire is seeking an enthusiastic student or recent graduate to join our accounting team in Saint Louis, MO for a paid internship. You will learn through mentorship and work on projects across the department while developing skills in the natural gas industry.

To be considered, you must be enrolled in accounting or finance, have 35–40 hours/week availability May through August, and demonstrate strong Excel and communication skills along with a basic understanding of US GAAP.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled college student or graduate student in accounting or finance.
• Availability to work up to 40 hours per week May–August.
• Advanced skills using Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Satisfactory completion of introductory and intermediate accounting courses.
• Basic understanding of US GAAP and financial principles.
• Motivation and willingness to take on new challenges.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and complete projects based on departmental needs.
• Acquaint yourself with monthly balance sheet schedules, including account reconciliations.
• Assist in monthly close activities, journal entries, and account analysis.
• Support preparation of quarterly SEC financial statements, footnotes, and earnings materials.
• Prepare ad-hoc reporting for management requests.
• Assist other departments with financial information and communicate project status to management.
• Perform administrative functions as needed.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
