The University of North Texas College of Public Affairs & Health Sciences seeks an Academic Advisor to support undergraduate recruitment, retention, and graduation. The advisor guides students through degree requirements, course planning, and graduation processes while promoting student engagement and academic success.

This role serves as a subject matter expert for PAHS majors and supports curriculum development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or academic advising.
  • Strong presentation skills suitable for diverse audiences.
  • Strong problem solving skills applicable to advising contexts.
  • Clear written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships across departments.
  • Ability to work independently and lead project teams effectively.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures or ability to quickly learn them.

Responsibilities

  • Advises students on UNT-PAHS curriculum, degree programs, academic requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Facilitates advising interactions across modalities, encouraging problem-solving, decision-making, planning, and goal-setting; makes referrals as needed and keeps advising records.
  • Uses advising approaches tailored to PAHS student needs and participates in ongoing professional development.
  • Collaborates with supervisor and colleagues to support student needs and advising office goals.
