Responsibilities/Duties

What you’ll do:

  • Facilitates the process of patient management in the surgical center.
  • Participates in making pre-op calls to patients if possible.
  • Collaborates with the front office staff on the intake process as needed.
  • Assists with pre-op assessment and teaching.
  • Plans and prepares for intraoperative nursing care of the patient.
  • Functions as a Scrub and Circulating nurse.
  • Able to create and maintain multiple sterile fields.
  • Provides equipment and supplies based on patient needs.
  • Performs sponge, sharps, and instrument counts as required.
  • Administers medications and solutions as prescribed.
  • Performs in emergency situations.
  • Monitors and controls the environment.
  • Participates in maintaining and assuring proper functioning of equipment and sterilization procedures.
  • Delegates duties only to competent appropriate personnel.
  • Performs responsibilities of post-anesthesia care and conducts discharge teaching.
  • Evaluates readiness for patient discharge and collaborates with the anesthesiologist in the discharge process.
  • Reports any potential or actual adverse events as appropriate.
  • Documents clearly and maintains the patient record.
  • Maintains pleasant and open communication with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Who you are:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum one year of recent Pre/Post anesthesia care unit (PACU) nursing preferred.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment and software.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, insurance regulations, policies, procedures, and other regulatory policies.
  • Medical office procedures, policies, practices, and medical terminology, telephone protocol, and professional etiquette.
  • Understanding of electronic medical systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain enthusiasm while handling a high volume and variety of duties.
  • Interest in learning procedures and software functionalities to improve effectiveness.
  • Organized, with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures appropriately.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with patients, staff, and the public, demonstrating empathy and tact.
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude, patience, and professionalism.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all patient information.
