Job summary

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, part of BJC HealthCare, seeks a registered nurse to provide direct patient care in a perioperative/acute setting. The role emphasizes patient- and family-centered care, assessment, planning, and collaboration with the interprofessional team.

Requirements include RN license, Nursing Diploma/Associate's, and preferably a Bachelor’s in Nursing; ICU or ED experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Communicates plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Assesses physical, psychosocial, emotional needs per standards of care.
• Identifies patient preferences, barriers, and cultural needs.

Overview

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park. The Perioperative Services staff at Barnes Jewish West County Hospital provide excellent Surgical Care by partnering with an extraordinary team of physicians and health care professionals. They are able to offer the comforts of a small community hospital combined with the resources of the world renowned BJC HeathCare System and Washington University Medical School. Our highly educated and dedicated staff continually strive to improve the health of the people and communities they serve.

Additional Information About The Role

• 2 shifts a month at least
• Very flexible on hours

Role Purpose: Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration. Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development. Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care. Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs. BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
