Job summary

Life at West Marine is looking for a Packer to prepare, pack, label, and inspect orders for shipment in a fast-paced warehouse. You will ensure accuracy and quality while following safety protocols and supporting timely order fulfillment.

The role requires basic computer skills, attention to detail, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Flexibility to work weekends and overtime is preferred to meet demand.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a receiving or warehouse environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with RF scanners and picking systems is advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with inventory management software.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and overtime as needed.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following safety protocols.

Job description

The Packer is responsible for preparing, packing, labeling, and inspecting orders for shipment to ensure accuracy and quality. This role plays a critical part in fulfilling customer orders on time while maintaining high safety and quality standards in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols while handling shipments. Report hazards or incidents to management immediately.
  • Order Fulfillment: Accurately pick and pack items according to order specifications.Verify correct quantities, item types, and condition of products prior to packing.
  • Packing & Labeling: Pack items securely using appropriate packing materials. Label boxes and packages clearly and accurately for shipping. Ensure orders are packed efficiently to prevent damage during transit.
  • Inspection & Quality Control: Perform final quality checks before packing. Report any damaged, incorrect, or missing items.
  • Inventory Interaction: Communicate with inventory or receiving staff about low stock or errors. Record packed quantities in inventory systems if required.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Coordinate with shipping, inventory, and receiving teams to ensure timely fulfillment.
  • Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organized assigned work area at all times during your scheduled shift.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a receiving or warehouse environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with RF scanners and picking systems is advantageous.

Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with inventory management software.
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and overtime as needed.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following established safety protocols at all times.
