Job summary

Dewey’s Bakery, a long-established company in Winston-Salem, NC, is seeking a Packer for the 2nd shift to support our packaging operations. The role involves packing finished products, following GMP and safety rules, and maintaining quality control throughout the shift.

You will perform metal detector checks, ensure proper labeling, and complete required documentation while upholding cleanliness and safety in a fast-paced production environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Preferred 1–3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation instructions and procedures.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in oral or written form.

Responsibilities

• Follows GMP rules and SBC policies and SOPs.
• Ensures products meet safety and quality standards; notifies supervisor of concerns.
• Performs metal detector checks and quality checks when needed.
• Packages and moves finished product; packs product in tubs if there is a breakdown.
• Completes applicable documentation (computerized and paper).
• Ensures labels have correct instructions and packaging is sealed and in good condition.
• Maintains temperature and humidity awareness in packing areas; reports concerns.
• Maintains a clean and safe work environment and communicates respectfully with coworkers and management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Follows the GMP rules of facility and all SBC policies and SOPs.
• Ensures all product meets SBC and customer-related food safety and quality standards and notifies supervisor of any concerns.
• Properly performs metal detector checks; ability to conduct quality checks, if needed.
• Ensures that product that falls on the floor is thrown away immediately.
• Packages and moves finished product; packs product in tubs in the event of a breakdown.
• Completes any applicable computerized and paper documentation.
• If labels are added to packaging, ensure that all instructions are followed.
• Maintains awareness of temperature and humidity in packing areas and notifies the supervisor of any concerns.
• Inspects the quality of the primary and secondary packaging ensuring that all seals are secure and all packaging is in good condition. If product is re-packaged, follow all food safety standards.
• Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
• Has the ability to communicate with co-workers and management in a respectful and effective manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
