Job summary

Biery Cheese Co. is seeking a Packaging Technician Level 1 (PT1) for our Operations team. This entry-level, full-time role supports packaging of cheese products while complying with GMP, SQF, and safety standards. The PT1 may perform sanitation duties and various line responsibilities depending on the product.

Shift options include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd with pay rates starting at $16 per hour and applicable shift differentials. Occasional overtime may be required.

Position Summary:

The Packaging Technician Level 1 (PT1) I must comply with all plant GMP, SQF Quality and Safety, Food Safety and Bio-Security procedures. The Packaging Technician Level 1 (PT1) is an entry level position. A PT1’s specific role may vary depending on the type of cheese product they package, but most PT1s perform basic production duties. This position may perform sanitation duties, as needed.

Typical positions filled by PT1’s are as follows:

• Turner/Opener
• Form Handler
• Cryovac Operator/Trayer
• Racker
• Process Grinders

Payrate and Shifts:

1st Shift: Monday - Friday 6:55am – 3:00pm Payrate: $16 per hour

2nd Shift: Monday - Friday 2:55pm – 11:00pm Payrate: $16 per hour; Shift differential $1.00

3rd Shift: Monday - Friday 10:55pm – 7:00am Payrate: $16.25 per hour; Shift differential $2.00

Occasional Mandatory OT including weekends

• Assist in supporting a safe and healthy work environment for all personnel through consistent support of the company’s Safety Process.
• Participate/support the SQF program and assist in the development of the system and operational standards and corrective actions.
• Responsible that product is run to specification ensuring the highest quality and help perform root cause analysis on all quality defects.
• Ability to record tracking information from bulk cheese containers/LPs to table placards.
• Remove cheese from manufacturing containers.
• Ability to operate Swiss and 640 lifts to load respective machines.
• Understanding of all plant GMP’s.
• Ability to fold, dump and skid forms.
• Able to operate and maintain the fillers.
• Able to create rack tags and batch tags.
• Ability to sort through trim to find foreign objects.
• Perform routine quality checks.
• Hold yourself and team members accountable.
• Makes verbal reports to Line Leader and provides spoken information about a problem or issue.
• Participate in 5Y methodology.
• Available to work overtime, as needed.
• Other duties and/or projects may be assigned.

Work Environment:

The work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts which may require special safety precautions working around moving machines in production facilities, protective clothing or gear such as goggles, gloves and shoes may be required. may be able to work in a cold environment.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
• Ability to use hands/arms to reach, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.
• Ability to work in multiple areas of the plant and may be exposed to wet and humid conditions.
• Able to lift up to 50lbs.
• Ability to use distant and peripheral vision, identify and distinguish colors, and adjust focus.
• May work near moving mechanical parts, high and/or confining places.
