Job summary

Neogen Corporation in Lansing, MI is seeking a Packaging Technician to assemble and package diagnostic test kits for the food safety industry, following SOPs to ensure accuracy and quality. This is 1st shift, Monday through Thursday, 5:00am to 3:30pm.

You will label components, perform final inspections, maintain clean work areas, follow GMP, GDP, ISO guidelines, and participate in inventory and supply tasks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; experience may be substituted by training.
  • 1 year of packaging experience or equivalent preferred.

  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of work areas
  • May rotate between stations as production needs
  • Follows SMP/SOP and ISO guidelines

  • Supports inventory and supply management
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

1st Shift Schedule

M-Thurs 5:00am-3:30pm

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assembles diagnostic test kits
  • Labels components
  • Completes production paperwork
  • Performs final inspections, weights, and counts of items to ensure they meet production standards
  • Maintains general cleanliness and organization of physical areas responsible for
  • May work at different stations as production needs require
  • Perform tasks according to the appropriate Standard Manufacturing Procedure (SMP) or Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
  • Follow International Organization for Standardization (ISO) guidelines in the manufacture of all reagents
  • Use good manufacturing procedures (GMP) and good documentation practices (GDP) in the manufacture of all reagents
  • Maintains the general cleanliness and organization of work areas using lean processes and 5S
  • Adheres to any and all safety rules and regulations, including personal protective equipment, proper use of equipment, proper disposal of any and all materials etc.
  • Perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time, while maintaining attention to detail
  • Maintains equipment and facilities
  • Dispenses bulk solutions through the use of semi-automated equipment.
  • Assist in physical inventories as required
  • Aid in supply management
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor and/or manager
  • Comply with and promote all corporate handbook policies

Qualifications

Education And Experience

Education and Experience: High school education; or up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • A minimum tenure of 1 year in the Packaging Assistant I position is required to be met before consideration for promotion to the next position level: Packaging Assistant II.
Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s and calculate percent. Ability to perform these calculations using units of American weight and measurement.

Language Skills

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to read, write and speak simple sentences in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural documents.
