Job summary

Saputo Cheese USA Inc. in California seeks a Packaging Supervisor to lead production staff on assigned shifts, optimize packaging line productivity, and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

You will coordinate setup, calibrations, and equipment adjustments; manage schedules, data entry, and reporting (OEE, downtime); and drive CI improvements to reduce downtime while mentoring a cross-functional team.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in Operations Management or equivalent experience.
  • 1–3 years of supervisory experience in food packaging preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GMP and safety policies.
  • Proficient with ERP systems; SAP preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise production staff to maximize shift productivity.
  • Ensure procedures for safety, quality, and compliance.
  • Inspect packaging materials and verify inventory.
  • Direct setup and adjustments of packaging equipment.
  • Coordinate production schedules and changeovers.

Packaging Supervisor

The Packaging Supervisor directly supervises production employees to maximize productivity on assigned shifts and areas. This includes planning, assigning and directing work, addressing product and employee complaints and resolving problems. This person carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies, OSHA regulations and applicable laws. How You Will Make Contributions That Matter:

Works with plant management and other supervisory staff to assign, direct, review and monitor work of supervised staff to maximize productivity in the plant.

Ensures proper procedures are in place and being followed for production efficiency, quality of product, employee safety, and state and federal guidelines.

Inspects packaging materials and consumables to verify conformance to specifications, validate inventory against weekly and daily run schedules.

Directs setup, calibrations and equipment adjustments to case formers, palletizers, labelers, coders, stretch wrapper, tape/gluer and other packaging support equipment.

Coordinate and communicate production schedules, change-overs, label and packaging code specifications to ensure order completion accuracy. Prevent over-runs. Evaluate and anticipate production volume adjustments, daily assignment of duties; establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production run schedules.

Using ERP system, complete production data entry results and reporting to include production results, volume, OEE, planned/unplanned downtime by product type and order. Complete and review production/packaging records, Master Cleaning Sanitation Lists, schedules, accident reports and investigations, and any other documents.

Coordinate, conduct and track employee training (i.e. technical, job, safety, etc.) and monitor work performance.

Recommends improvements to production methods, equipment performance and quality of product. Using CI methods to analyze, identify and communicate root cause and preventive measures to proactively resolve work problems, increase up-time and minimize mechanical and/or human-error disruptions.

Maintains time and production records as required. Collaborates cross-functionally with other departments to meet performance objectives.

Provide supervision of assigned employees in scheduling and daily activities, ensuring effective selection, retention, feedback, disciplinary action and performance management. Ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures. Support employee progressive disciplinary action activities in partnership with Human Resources.

Promote safety programs and policies in order to reduce the number of safety incidents and near-misses. Train and instruct employees regarding production and equipment standards and processes. Oversees instruction, implementation and enforcement of policies as they relate to employees.

Engages in the typical responsibilities of a manager requiring training, writing and validating SOP's, planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating and delegating.

You Are Best Suited for the Role If You
  • High school diploma or general education certificate equivalent.
  • A minimum of an Associate's degree in Operations Management, or equivalent experience.
  • One to three years of supervisory experience in a food packaging environment preferred.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Experience leading and following Safety/Security Policies and Procedures.
  • Proficient with ERP solutions, SAP preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and computer-based applications.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Skill in organization and prioritization, and attention to detail.
  • Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
  • Ability to select, lead, coach, influence, motivate, develop, engage and retain a team of employees.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to understand cost containment and budgetary principles.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends in support of plant operations.

Salary Range: $73,815 - $92,270 Salary offers will vary commensurate with experience, education, skills and training.
