GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Supervises and coordinates activities of the Packaging Line Operators engaged in packaging products and materials for storage or shipment by performing the following activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reviews packaging requirements/requests to determine the type and quantity of product, containers to be used and other packaging requirements as required to prepare Packaging MPR’s.
  • Prepares SOP’s and MPR’s. Observes packaging operations and inspects products and containers to verify conformance to specifications. Perform pre-run inspection, line checks and notifies maintenance as required.
  • Reviews production schedule and estimates labor hour requirements. Adjust work procedures and makes recommendations as required to gain efficiency, eliminate problems, and meet production schedule.
  • Interprets company policies and applicable safety regulations to Line Operators. Ensure Packaging Line Operators are in compliance with SOP, cGMP and company policy.
  • Maintains daily time measurements and enters data into Lincs for Packaging department KPI calculation and tracking. Confers with other managers/supervisors to coordinate interdepartmental activities as required to meet the production schedule.
  • Conducts product failure investigations and identifies corrective actions. Performs required Line Operator training for SOP, cGMP and safety. Audits MPR’s and Logbooks. Assists in the resolution of employee related issues.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; or minimum of five (5) years supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience and demonstrated competency and proficiency in all relevant responsibilities. Must have a minimum of two (2) years previous manufacturing industry experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry, which demonstrates progressive responsibilities and duties.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides direct, daily supervision of production line employees. May be required to supervise additional employees in the absence of other supervisor/management team members. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and understand general business/company related articles and professional journals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.

SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED

Knowledge of Database software, Internet, Inventory software, Project Management software, Excel and Word.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; and frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, taste or smell; occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; and occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, wet or humid conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
