Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. in Smithfield, VA, is seeking a Manager of Packaging Specifications to lead data governance and packaging specification processes across the product lifecycle, ensuring alignment with customer, regulatory, and sustainability requirements.

You will mentor packaging spec writers, own systems like Specright, SAP and SharePoint, coordinate with R&D, FSQA and Operations, support plant trials, and drive continuous improvement in data integrity, cost efficiency, and packaging

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college in Packaging Engineering or related field and 5+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination.
• 2+ years of team management or project leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of packaging materials, processes, and testing.
• Experience with Specright, SAP, PMDM; familiarity with e-halo, EPR, and CAA reporting.
• Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage data-driven packaging programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead packaging specification processes and data governance across the product lifecycle.
• Mentor specification writers/engineers and manage performance, training, and career development.
• Own packaging specification systems (Specright, SAP, SharePoint) and ensure accurate data and communications.
• Ensure regulatory and customer data alignment; support plant trials and product commercialization.
• Drive continuous improvement in data integrity, cost efficiency, and packaging performance.
