Job summary

Michael Foods, Inc. in West Jefferson, OH is seeking a Packaging Operator to join our production team. You will operate case packers, conveyors, and robotic arms, ensure food safety and quality, and support changeovers and equipment setup.

The role requires adherence to GMPs, strong teamwork and reliability. The position offers a 2-2-3 schedule with overtime and a focus on continuous improvement and safety in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; willingness to follow GMPs.
  • Experience with food manufacturing and GMPs is preferred.
  • Experience with high-speed packaging equipment or palletizing robotic arms preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and understand shift-change instructions, emails and memos.
  • Basic math and computer skills are helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to safe work practices and GMPs, maintain sanitary conditions and product quality.
  • Report conditions affecting food safety, quality or safety to management.
  • Operate packaging lines, conveyors, case packers, cappers, and robots; handle changeovers and minor adjustments.
  • Fill in for other operators during lunches/breaks.
  • Set up equipment for production runs and troubleshoot issues.
  • Record quality checks and downtime events in the system.

Responsibilities
In This Position, Packaging Operators Will
  • Adhere to safe work practices, policies, and procedures. Follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained.
  • Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety
  • Operate case packers, Accumulating Conveyor, Line Control Device, Case Coder, Sleever, Cappers, and/or robots ensuring proper operations (loading corrugate, overwraps, caps, or maintaining proper glue volume, etc. including changeovers and minor adjustments).
  • Fill in for other Packaging Machine Operators for lunches and breaks as needed.
  • Set-up of equipment and material for a production run.
  • Troubleshoot issues with equipment.
  • Conduct and record all quality checks and record downtime events in a timely fashion utilizing Redzone.
  • Foster open communications and a good attitude toward work and fellow employees.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
  • Operate a manual pallet jack
  • Manage inventory consumptions or creation in inventory management system.
  • Alert the Supervisor when major mechanical problems occur and report any system abnormalities to reduce the risk of, and damage to, the system or product.
  • Will serve as a team player who aligns and upholds our values: Teamwork, Accountability, Innovation and Continuous Improvement and passion for customer and consumers.
  • Attend and actively participate in safety meetings and trainings.
  • Responsible for Food Safety and Food Quality of MFI products.
  • Demonstrate proper handling and usage of cleaning agents.
  • Train new hires as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
A schedule example of the 2-2-3 model is as follows:
  • WEEK 1 - 40 hours regular / 8 hours over- time
  • Sunday OFF
  • Monday Work 6:00pm – 6:30am
  • Tuesday Work 6:00pm – 6:30am
  • Wednesday OFF
  • Thursday OFF
  • Friday Work 6:00pm – 6:30am
  • Saturday Work 6:00pm – 6:30am
  • WEEK 2 – 36 hours regular
  • Sunday Work 6:00pm – 6:30am
  • Monday OFF
  • Tuesday OFF
  • Wednesday Work 6:00pm – 6:00am
  • Thursday Work 6:00pm – 6:30am
  • Friday OFF

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
Preferred Education, Experience And Skills
  • Experience with food manufacturing and GMPs
  • Experience with high-speed packaging equipment or experience with palletizing robotic arms
  • One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend shift change instructions, short correspondence, emails, and memos.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively with other employees.
  • Ability to calculate general mathematics.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving one concrete variable in standardized situations.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills.
