Position Summary:

The Packaging Operator is responsible for efficiently operating packaging machinery, ensuring that products are packaged according to specifications, and maintaining high-quality standards. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to troubleshoot minor issues with packaging equipment.

Scheduled hours for this 2nd shift position are 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM. The pay rate for the Packaging Operator starts at $21.50/hr.

Overtime Notice: Overtime may be required and can be scheduled before and/or after regular weekday shifts, as well as on weekends. Overtime may be voluntary or mandatory, depending on business needs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate Packaging Equipment: Set up, operate, and adjust packaging machinery to package products accurately and efficiently. This may include filling, sealing, labeling, and coding machines.
  • Quality Control: Inspect products and packaging materials for defects or inconsistencies. Ensure that packaging meets company and industry standards, including correct labeling and packaging integrity.
  • Maintain Equipment: Perform routine maintenance on packaging machinery, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts as needed. Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the maintenance team.
  • Monitor Production: Track production rates and ensure that packaging processes meet production goals. Make adjustments to machinery settings to optimize performance and minimize downtime.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety procedures and protocols to maintain a safe working environment. Report any safety hazards or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of packaging operations, including quantities packaged, materials used, and any issues encountered. Complete required documentation and reports.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members and departments to ensure smooth production flow. Communicate any concerns or feedback to improve packaging processes.
  • Documented Inspections: Complete and maintain accurate records of documented inspections, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Inventory Management: Assist with inventory control by monitoring and reporting on the usage of packaging materials. Ensure that materials are stored properly and replenished as needed.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve minor technical issues with packaging machinery. Escalate more complex issues to the maintenance team or supervisor.
  • Other Duties: Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or production manager to support the team and ensure efficient operations.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Additional technical training or certification in packaging machinery is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a packaging or production role

Work Environment:

Production facility setting.

  • Must wear required PPE while in all manufacturing areas.
  • Moving parts and machinery are present in the plant.
  • Noise levels will vary, higher noise levels exist while in the plant operations areas.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs over an entire shift.
  • Ability to physically perform repetitive motions of grasping, lifting, pulling, pushing, crouching, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Ability to work in a hot, humid environment when performing sanitation tasks.
  • Ability to use knives to cut open bags and dump 50 lb bags at a high frequency.
