The Duluth location is undergoing rapid expansion, making it an exciting time to join our team. The Packaging Operator supports the Converting Production by operating paper converting equipment to meet the production goal established for the line in a safe manner. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with company safety policies and that all products manufactured meet customer specifications.

Schedule: Modified DuPont schedule (12-hour day and night shifts, rotating weekends, and periodic transitions between days and nights). Candidates should carefully consider the schedule before applying.

Pay: Starts at $25.11 an hour with opportunity to increase in pay as on‑job certifications are completed.

Essential Job Functions
  • Support Sofidel America’s Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP to promote a safe, sanitary, and hygienically sound workplace.
  • Set up, operate, adjust, and change‑over the primary and/or secondary packaging equipment.
  • Work with other staff to achieve established production rates and line uptime.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks and communicate additional work required to dedicated maintenance staff.
  • Document quality control, production and/or maintenance issues on respective reporting forms during operation of the line.
  • Understand product specifications to ensure production of a quality finished product within tolerances.
  • Read and comprehend production schedules, work orders, manuals, and performance specifications to establish proper operation of the equipment.
  • Obey housekeeping rules and maintain a safe and organized work area clean of obstacles, debris, and loose material.
  • Perform routine inspection of equipment condition and report unusual operating problems.
  • Assist other operators, maintenance, or production personnel in other production duties as needed.
Other Duties
  • Perform or assist with any operations required to maintain workflow and meet schedules and quality requirements.
  • Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional materials and supplies.
  • Maintain a safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules, keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Support quality, housekeeping, and sanitation standards and assure customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain specified knowledge of new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED and 6 to 12 months experience in manufacturing inventory and purchasing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work across departments and in a team environment.
  • Strong time‑management skills, ability to prioritize and re‑prioritize tasks as needed.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and quality and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Basic arithmetic skills with various units of measure.
  • Ability to learn and certify in Lift and Crane operation.
  • Proficiency with tools, measuring tape, calculators, and other metrology instruments related to equipment operation.
  • Ability to identify nonconformance and notify Supervisor of issues.
  • Effective communication with managers, technicians, production personnel, and other operators regarding testing procedures and results to resolve problems.
  • Ability to use computer and peripherals, standard and customized software applications, and usual production equipment.
Physical Demands

Ability to stand, walk, sit, and handle items ranging from 10 to over 100 lbs. as required by the job. Activities include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, crawling, squatting or kneeling, bending, and reaching. Physical tasks are performed often or frequently depending on job demands.

Additional Physical Requirements
  • Normal vision (near, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception).
  • Normal sense of sound and touch.
Work Environment

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, including safety shoes, eye and ear protection, reflective vests, hairnets or hats, and other necessary protection. Temperatures in the plant/warehouse can vary seasonally. Employees are exposed to significant paper dust and noise levels requiring hearing protection.
