Job description

Job Overview

We are looking for a Packaging Mechanic to support the Maintenance Department in Somerset, NJ. The role ensures the continuous and uninterrupted operation of all packaging line systems and equipment while working closely with plant and production management.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair all packaging line systems and equipment, including vertical form and fill bagging machines, rotary cartoners, weigh scales, tapers, conveyors, combination scales, flow wrappers, sealers, and printers.
• Make changeover adjustments for product bag and box size changes.
• Report food safety and quality issues to Plant management and SQFP.
• Follow PIM Brands GMP rules and monitor employees for adherence to GMPs.
• Perform preventive maintenance to ensure all packaging equipment functions properly.
• Grease, oil, clean, adjust, and track all maintenance tasks as specified by manufacturer PM schedules.
• Provide accurate and timely documentation of work in equipment logbooks and communicate with coworkers during shift hand‑offs.
• Assist in training others as needed.
• Maintain machinery to meet customer and manufacturer specifications and ensure food safety and quality.
• Work additional hours as required.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent (strongly preferred).
• 3–5 years of experience repairing manufacturing packaging equipment.
• Proficient mechanical repair skills, equipment setup, preventive maintenance, and equipment changeovers.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, complete documentation (daily timesheets, line changeover sheets, critical control point sheets, equipment logbooks).
• Basic math and computer skills preferred.
• Willingness to receive training.
• English language proficiency (read, speak, write).

Physical Demands and Essential Job Functions

Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, and crouching; manual dexterity required for handling tools; lifting and moving objects weighing at least 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodations will be considered.

Work Environment

The job is performed in a large, busy manufacturing plant with constant movement, motorized equipment, noise, and traffic. Protective apparel (GMP‑required: hair net, beard net, work uniform, eye protection, gloves) must be worn on the plant floor.

Worksite

PIM Brands, Somerset, New Jersey. The role requires working on‑site during the 2nd shift, Tuesday through Saturday, 2:00PM–10:30PM.
