Summary

The Packaging Line Lead plays a critical role in overseeing and coordinating the activities of the packaging line to ensure efficient and smooth operations. This position requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The role involves working hands-on on the packaging line, performing sanitation duties, and serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for their area. They will also act as a backup shift leader in the absence of the Production Supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Lead a team of packaging machine operators and production associates, providing guidance, training, and support.
  2. Provide performance feedback and identify development opportunities.
  3. Foster a positive work environment, promote teamwork, and resolve conflicts.
  4. Operate and monitor packaging machinery, ensuring proper setup, adjustments, and troubleshooting.
  5. Perform routine machine setup, changeovers, and maintenance.
  6. Monitor product quality, including weights, seals, labels, and appearance.
  7. Calibrate and adjust equipment settings as needed.
  8. Conduct quality checks and document quality data.
  9. Collaborate with quality control and production supervisors for seamless operations.
  10. Document production data and operational issues.
  11. Perform sanitation duties, including cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work areas.
  12. Adhere to safety protocols and food safety regulations (FDA, HACCP, GMP, OSHA).
  13. Assist with general labor tasks like moving products and loading/unloading materials.
  14. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work areas.
  15. Follow proper waste handling and disposal procedures.
  16. Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or operational issues promptly.
  17. Attend safety and department meetings and complete required training.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills, Education, and/or Experience
  1. Previous experience operating packaging machinery preferred.
  2. Ability to safely operate electric pallet jacks.
  3. Ability to read and interpret work instructions.
  4. Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  5. Physical stamina for demanding tasks (lifting, standing, etc.).
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  7. Adaptability to a fast-paced environment and overtime as needed.
  8. Physical requirements include frequent handling, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, reaching, standing, walking, bending, and visual acuity.
Work Environment

Constant exposure to noise, wet/humid/cold conditions, and occasional contact with chemicals and dust. Reasonable accommodations can be made for disabilities.
