Job summary

Martin's Famous Potato Rolls and Bread is hiring a Packaging Laborer to support our night-shift packaging operations. You will inspect products, operate packaging machinery, and help maintain smooth production lines. A strong focus on quality and safety is essential.

Overview

Come join our team as a Packaging Laborer! We started with pastries handmade by Lois and Lloyd Martin inside of a garage and we have boomed into a multi‑facility company where many products are produced by machines and shipped domestically and internationally. Pay Rate

$22.05 per hour – Paid weekly. Additional $3.00 per hour shift differential for working 4+ consecutive hours between 3 pm and 7 am. Weekend premium pay, profit‑sharing bonus, 401(k) profit sharing, health insurance (medical, dental & vision), health savings account, vacation/PTO and other benefits.

Schedule & Hours
  • Shift options:
    • 10:30 pm – 6:40 am (8‑hour shift)
    • 6:30 pm – 6:40 am (12‑hour shift)
  • Typical schedules (depending on availability at hire):
    • Monday – Friday
    • Tuesday – Saturday
    • Wednesday – Sunday
    • Thursday – Monday
    • Friday – Tuesday
    • Saturday – Wednesday
    • Sunday – Thursday
  • Overtime day (6th day) may be scheduled on any off day depending on production demand.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate products entering packaging to ensure quality standards.
  • Remove sub‑standard product from the line.
  • Communicate quality issues to Line Control Supervisor for correction.
  • Remove packaged product from conveyor line and place into baskets.
  • Monitor packaged product for quality standards and ensure correct packing dates.
  • Pack special arrangements or selections of product.
  • Start and adjust slicers and packaging machinery; request repairs from maintenance.
  • Straighten product along the conveyor.
  • Start, adjust and monitor economy packaging equipment.
  • Operate palletizing equipment.
  • Operate bagging and kwickloc equipment.
  • Maintain counts of finished product to meet orders from Load Coordinating Department.
  • Communicate product clip demands to Line Control Supervisors.
  • Remove full or partial pallets for staging.
  • Refill bags of bagging equipment.
  • Monitor clip color, date, product and price for accuracy.
  • Operate sticker machines and pattern makers.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the area.
  • Assist co‑workers when the system is not running properly.
  • Identify ways to improve and promote quality; apply feedback to improve performance.
  • Support organizational culture and values by following policies, working with integrity, building morale, and respecting others.
  • Adhere to safety, food safety, quality, and Good Manufacturing Practices regulations.
  • Report safety, food safety and quality problems to authorized personnel.
Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and/or Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Related experience in food manufacturing and/or machine operating experience.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Operate or learn to operate machinery and equipment.
  • Be flexible in adhering to changes in consumer demand.
Language Skills

Read and comprehend safety rules, simple instructions and memos; write simple correspondence; present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations; speak clearly, listen and respond.

Mathematical Skills

Perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with whole numbers, common fractions and decimals in all units of measure.

Reasoning Ability

Apply common sense to carry out detailed but straightforward written or oral instructions; solve problems with a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

Stand for long periods; use hands, arms and reach; walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, crouch and/or crawl; repeatedly lift and move up to 15 lb, occasionally up to 50 lb; maintain good vision (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth).

Work Environment

Work performed in a food manufacturing environment with typical noise, temperature and light levels of an industrial production line.
