Job summary

Smucker is offering a Packaging Intern position in Orrville, Ohio, inside the Packaging lab. You will apply data-driven methods, support sustainability goals, and collaborate with Marketing, Procurement, Operations and Creative to drive tangible packaging improvements.

The role is hybrid with 60% in-office, 6-8 month or 3-month summer options. Projects include evaluating packaging materials, test methods like vibration, drop, compression, and maintaining documentation.

Qualifications

• Sophomore, junior or senior standing in Packaging Engineering.
• Strong time-management, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Interest in sustainability and data-based decision making.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with external supply base to improve structure while evaluating sustainability and cost.
• Support material evaluation activities including data collection and statistics.
• Perform packaging tests such as Vibration, Drop, Side Impact, Compression, Tensile and Burst.
• Maintain technical documentation, How2Recycle database, pallet patterns and drawings.
• Assist production line assessments of alternative packaging solutions.
