Job summary

NC State University in Raleigh, NC seeks a Packaging Engineer to join the CLAWS research group, supporting packaging of RF, power, and photonics devices and ICs. The role focuses on developing and integrating packaging processes, design, and assembly, collaborating with device, process, and test engineers to optimize interconnects and thermal/mechanical performance.

The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. or Master’s with relevant experience in high power RF or photonics packaging, strong communication

Qualifications

• Ph.D./Master/Bachelor with focus on semiconductor high power, RF, or photonics devices.
• Experience designing and implementing packaging processes for high power, RF, or photonics applications.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead packaging of wide bandgap semiconductor devices (30%).
• RF devices including HEMTs and MMICs.
• High power electronic devices including HEMTs, FETs, and diodes.
• Visible spectrum optoelectronic devices and Photonic Integrated Circuits.
• Specify package solutions meeting performance requirements in collaboration with CLAWS teams.
• Define scalable workflows to realize packaged devices, ICs, or modules.
• Collaborate on cross-functional design initiatives to improve performance and reliability.
• Lead development and integration of packaging processes (die attach, wire bonding, encapsulation).
• Analyze package performance and inform simulations with data.
• Collaborate with circuit designers, applications engineers, and product teams.
