Job summary

Exelixis is seeking a Packaging Engineer I responsible for technical oversight of pharmaceutical packaging operations at Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs). The ideal candidate will have knowledge of packaging operations and experience in overseeing these processes.

This role includes providing on-site support for project activities, troubleshooting packaging issues, and reviewing packaging records. The position requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 1 year related experience.

Salary ranges from $75,000 to $106,500 annually, with comprehensive benefits included.

SUMMARY

The Packaging Engineer I is responsible for providing technical oversight of pharmaceutical packaging operations at Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs). The qualified candidate will have technical knowledge of packaging operations and experience overseeing pharmaceutical packaging operations at external CMOs, and possess excellent interpersonal skills to effectively work in a team‑based environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide on‑site/remote technical support for project activities such as commercial packaging, implementation/qualification of new packaging line equipment and introduction of component changes.
  • Work as person‑in‑plant to oversee routine commercial packaging operations at CMOs as needed.
  • Utilize technical expertise to troubleshoot packaging process issues.
  • Provide support for packaging serialization implementation.
  • Review and approve Master Packaging Records and executed packaging batch records, protocols, and reports.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversight of work at external CMOs.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline and a minimum of 1 year of related experience; or,
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • Experience with packaging operations for pharmaceutical products.
  • Experience providing CMO on‑site technical support, including oversight of packaging issues and investigations.
  • Experience working with internal and external partners.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Proficiency with broad use computer applications such as MS Office and specialized applications as needed.
  • Understanding of labeling and packaging operations including artwork, bottle filling, blistering, cartooning, printing and serialization.
  • Ability to perform a variety of complicated tasks with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
  • Good understanding of technical principles, theories, concepts and techniques for packaging.
  • Strong analytical and business communication skills, able to present data and results concisely to relevant audiences.
  • Environment: primarily working in laboratories or in office.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Travel required – 15% domestic/international.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Base salary range: $75,000 – $106,500 annually, adjusted for geographic region. Benefits include a 401k plan with company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, discretionary bonus program, stock purchase options, long‑term incentives, 15 accrued vacation days in first year, 17 paid holidays (including a company‑wide winter shutdown in December), and up to 10 sick days per calendar year.
