Job summary

UFP Industries is seeking a Packaging Engineer I to design and develop packaging products and solutions that meet customer specifications with minimal supervision. You will coordinate with customers and align with sales strategies and manufacturing operations to optimize cost, profit, and productivity.

Under the Packaging Design Manager, you will exercise judgment on prioritization and apply creativity to develop innovative packaging solutions across materials, processes, and production

Qualifications

• Packaging engineering degree or equivalent required.
• Proficient in English reading, writing and speaking.
• Experience in packaging distribution environment.
• Experience or training in ISTA packaging testing to design efficient packaging.
• Experience in designing for production workflow and ergonomics.
• Experience presenting to customers and describing product benefits.
• Experience with intermodal packaging requirements.
• Experience with project management roles.
• Solid understanding of cuts and yields of material.
• Strong communication with customers, vendors and coworkers.

Responsibilities

• Manages new product development processes based on customer needs; design structural packaging using SolidWorks and related tools.
• Offers alternative designs or material solutions for packaging.
• Develops drawings and specifications meeting operations' and customers' requirements with cost-effective production techniques.
• Determines product costs, develops bills of materials, and maintains data in systems.
• Drives manufacturing efficiency through design methods and supports production teams on efficiency initiatives.
• Develops corrective action as required per ECO, DCR and plant needs.
• Prepares various reports as required.
• Performs other duties as required.
