Job summary

Downtown Boulder Partnership is seeking a Packaging Engineer in Thousand Oaks, CA for a 12-month assignment within the Combination Product Operations group. You will apply engineering principles to design, qualify, and implement packaging components and related documentation and processes.

This role requires GMP experience, packaging knowledge, and the ability to collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and Supply Chain teams on pre-commercial and commercial activities.

Qualifications

• Requires packaging engineering experience and GMP knowledge.
• Educational requirements include Master or Bachelor with experience.
• Experience with materials and packaging components preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead testing and evaluations to select primary and secondary packaging materials for products.
• Perform distribution testing per ASTM D4169 and related standards (ASTM, ISO, TAPPI, USP, EP).
• Write test protocols and perform evaluations to support reports for material selections.
• Create specifications and implement through technical change records.
• Build, modify, and approve engineering drawings using AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, SolidWorks.
• Support line trials and packaging validation activities prior to introduction of new or changed components/processes.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Process Development, Quality, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Device Engineering, Artwork/Labeling, Regulatory, and others in pre-commercial and commercial activities.

Title: Packaging Engineer

Duration : 12 months

Location: Thousand Oaks, CA

Description:

This position reports into the Packaging Engineering group under Combination Product Operations (CPO) and is located in Thousand Oaks, CA. The position will support global supply, new product introductions, partnerships/acquisitions and combination products. This position will apply engineering principles to implement the accurate design, qualification and implementation of Primary and Secondary Packaging components and the associated systems such as documentation, equipment, and processes. A knowledge of common materials utilized in healthcare packaging is key to this role. Material knowledge of structural components are integral in the day-to-day oversight of this role: bottles, labels, trays, lidding material, leaflets, paperboard, sterile barrier packaging, corrugate, etc. The position entails interpersonal, project management, technical problem solving and communication (written and verbal) skills, and the opportunity to work in teams and adapt to a continuously evolving environment.

• Perform distribution testing per ASTM D4169. Complete testing standards using ASTM, ISO, TAPPI, USP and EP
• Writing of test protocols, perform technical evaluations and testing to support reports used to uphold the use of selected materials and packaging components
• Creating specifications along with implementation through technical change records
• Build, modify, and approve engineering drawings using AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, Solid Works, or similar software applications
• Support line trials and packaging validation activities prior to introduction of any new or change in components/processes
• Collaborate with multi-functional teams (i.e. Manufacturing, Process Development, Quality, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Device Engineering, Primary Container Engineering, Artwork/Labeling, Regulatory, etc.) in pre-commercial and commercial activities
