Job summary

Ingenics in Alabama seeks a Packaging Engineer to provide on-site packaging planning for Body Shop and Assembly Shop operations in Vance. You will develop packaging concepts, coordinate with planning, production, safety, and suppliers, and help prepare for an upcoming vehicle program.

You will manage packaging development, testing, approval, and sign-off with internal teams and suppliers, support returnable and expendable packaging, and ensure readiness for milestones and launches.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in automotive packaging planning or packaging engineering.
  • Experience with SAP and automotive planning systems.
  • Knowledge of returnable and expendable packaging and material flow.
  • Ability to coordinate with suppliers and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate packaging development and setup based on BOM.
  • Support packaging concepts for safe, ergonomic material flow.
  • Coordinate development, testing, approval, and sign-off with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Support returnable and one-way packaging for automated and non-automated environments.
  • Coordinate packaging materials and ensure readiness for milestones and vehicle launch.
  • Maintain packaging data in SCIP, Smaragd, SAP and other planning systems.
  • Collaborate with Packaging Engineering, Planning, Production, Safety, Logistics and others.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to resolve packaging issues and ensure requirements are met.
  • Provide on-site support during development, implementation and launch activities.
  • Travel to supplier locations within the U.S. as required.

Description

About the Opportunity

The Packaging Engineer will provide on-site packaging planning support forBody Shop and Assembly Shop operations in Vance, Alabama. This role will support packaging development and readiness for an upcoming vehicle program, working closely with planning teams, production, safety, suppliers, and cross-functional teams. The position will focus on Body Shop-owned packaging and supplier-owned Assembly Shop packaging, including packaging development, supplier coordination, approval, implementation, and documentation.

What You'll Do
  • Coordinate packaging development and setup based on the provided Bill of Material (BOM).
  • Support packaging concepts and designs that promote safe, ergonomic, and efficient material flow.
  • Coordinate packaging development, testing, approval, and final sign-off with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Support both returnable and one-way packaging solutions for automated and non-automated production environments.
  • Coordinate packaging materials and ensure packaging readiness for project milestones and vehicle launch.
  • Maintain accurate packaging data and documentation within applicable systems such as SCIP, Smaragd, SAP, and other planning systems.
  • Collaborate with Packaging Engineering, Planning, Production, Safety, Logistics, and other internal departments.
  • Coordinate directly with suppliers to resolve packaging-related issues and ensure requirements are met.
  • Provide on-site support throughout packaging development, implementation, and launch activities.
  • Travel to supplier locations within the U.S. as required.
What We're Looking For
  • 2+ years of experience in automotive packaging planning, packaging engineering, material flow, logistics, or a related area.
  • Previous experience with an automotive OEM strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of automotive packaging development and documentation processes.
  • Experience with returnable and expendable/one-way packaging.
  • Understanding of packaging requirements for automated and non-automated material handling environments.
  • Experience with SAP; familiarity with SCIP, Smaragd, or similar automotive planning systems is a plus.
  • Understanding of ergonomic material-flow and packaging design principles.
  • Strong organizational, coordination, and supplier-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and OneNote.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional and international teams.
