Job summary

Generac Power Systems Inc. seeks a Packaging Engineer to develop and maintain supplier packaging and material presentation to the factory, collaborating with engineering, quality, supply chain, logistics and manufacturing.

You will create PFEP and TCO models, travel to suppliers (about 10%), develop SOPs and work instructions, and train teams on packaging improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 3 years packaging design experience.
  • Experience building PFEP and TCO models for materials packaging.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop packaging models for raw materials and total cost of ownership.
  • Travel to supplier sites to understand inbound materials and packaging needs.
  • Create monitoring tools to track supplier adherence to packaging policy.
  • Develop test methods and protocols for packaging improvements.
  • Create SOPs and work instructions for packaging activities.
  • Provide training on packaging processes.
  • Collaborate with project management to ensure correct packaging specs for new products.
  • Present supply chain information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate communications highlighting plans and results.

The packaging engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining all supplier packing and material presentation to the factory. This requires collaboration with engineering, quality, supply chain, logistics, and manufacturing. Supplier packaging will be a significant portion of the total cost of ownership model.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop in collaboration with the inventory analyst packaging models for all raw materials supporting the plan for every part (PFEP) and total cost of ownership (TCO) models
  • Travel to the supply base to understand inbound materials and needed packaging
  • Develop monitoring tools to ensure and communicate supplier adherence to the supplier packaging policy
  • Develops and executes test methods, capability studies and protocols for packaging related improvements.
  • Creates or validates packaging related SOPs and Work Instructions.
  • Provides training for appropriate personnel performing packaging activities
  • Develop policy for preservation of materials for service requirements
  • Collaborate with project management and supplier sourcing to ensure all new product sourced has the correct packaging specification
  • Present supply chain related information to internal and external stakeholders;
  • Coordinate communication activities that highlight and publicize plans, goals and results.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering 3 years of experience in a packaging design role
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and statistical analysis software
  • Previous experience using SAP or equivalent ERP.
  • Ability to work creatively and analytically, both independently and in a team oriented, problem solving environment
  • Teaching, training, coaching, or mentoring experience
  • Experience working with International Companies and in a matrix organization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of ERP systems / SAP a plus SAP Business Objects
  • Deep analytical mindset, and problem-solving acumen
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of leadership and with external providers

Physical Demands

Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus.
