Role Overview

The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing sustainable packaging solutions for fresh human-graded dog food products. This includes ensuring product freshness, safety, and convenience, collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize packaging performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with teams including Growth, Product Development, Design, Quality Assurance, Operations, and vendors to develop innovative packaging.
  2. Support packaging design by preparing and presenting recommendations aligned with project goals and timelines.
  3. Participate in packaging development from concept to launch, researching and developing solutions that meet product and consumer needs.
  4. Design packaging to ensure freshness, safety, regulatory compliance, and convenience for pet food.
  5. Develop test protocols and conduct trials to validate packaging performance and compliance.
  6. Coordinate with partners and suppliers to keep projects on track.
  7. Seek opportunities to improve sustainability, performance, and efficiency of packaging materials and processes.
  8. Contribute to cost-saving initiatives at component and process levels.
  9. Build relationships within packaging networks to support solution delivery.
  10. Apply Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement tools to streamline operations.
  11. Maintain records of designs, tests, and updates for traceability.
  12. Prepare technical documentation and present findings to stakeholders.
  13. Travel up to 50% domestically as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in packaging engineering, preferably in the food industry.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in CAD and packaging design tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing, and sustainability practices.
  • Experience with risk assessment and manufacturing trials.
  • Effective communication skills for complex information sharing.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Leadership by example and a team-oriented mindset.

The anticipated salary range is $70,000 - $85,000 USD, with equity options. Exact compensation will be discussed at offer time, considering location differences.
