POSITION SUMMARY

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for designing and development packaging for new products from primary packaging, secondary packaging, shipper case to pallet pattern.

This role involves selecting the right material, able to suggest the design to match product size and test to check compatibility with process line. The selected packaging shall meet with target process efficiency and packaging material cost while ensuring safety compliance.

The responsibility also includes support troubleshooting any issue related to packaging process and searching for continuous improvement of current packing line to meet process efficiency, and packaging material cost reduction.

This role involves close collaboration with both internal and external customers, R&D, production, and finance teams. Some projects may need to lead as project managers to control overall project action list and timeline.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design & Implementation: Develop, configure packaging for new products from primary, secondary packaging, shipper to pallet pattern.
• Packaging test from lab prototype until test run to make sure process line compatibility.
• Seal test, drop test, transportation test following the testing protocol.
• Understand Packaging machine and able to work with packaging machine vendor.
• Process Optimization and Continuous improvement: Analyze manufacturing data (throughput, variance) to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Project Management: Lead or support projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation. Coordinate project between each party including external customer.
• Troubleshooting: Provide technical support to resolve production, equipment, and quality issues that relate to packaging issues.
• Safety & Compliance: Ensure all processes comply with health, safety, and industry regulations.

REQUIREMENTS

• Education: A bachelor's degree in engineering, a related field, or a relevant science degree
• Experience: 3+ years of experience in food manufacturing and packaging
• Ability to work in manufacturing facilities to test and troubleshoot
• Working location in Jackson plant, Ohio or Columbus Ohio
• Ability to travel if needed.
• Strong critical thinking skills, and continuous improvement skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, operations management, industrial staff, and vendors.
• Data analysis skill able to use Excel or Minitab for statistical analysis.
• Ability to learn, understand and apply new technologies, and work independently.
• Understand manufacturing cost and variance related to process efficiency.
