Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Operations Manager - Propane provides Zone-wide leadership for propane operations, safety, compliance, asset management, and operational execution. This role is responsible for establishing operational standards, driving regulatory compliance, optimizing fleet and asset utilization, and ensuring the organization is prepared to safely meet customer demand across all propane locations.

Serving as the operational subject matter expert for propane, this position leads compliance initiatives, training programs, operational audits, fleet management, and continuous improvement efforts while supporting consistent execution across the business. The Operations Manager works closely with Regional General Managers, Site Managers, and the Regional Sales Manager - Propane to align operational capabilities with the Zone’s growth objectives.

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Operations Manager partners with Zone and regional leadership to strengthen safety performance, improve operational efficiency, support customer retention, and drive operational excellence throughout the propane network.

Pay Range: $100K - $125K + Bonus

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Lead the propane safety program and ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, NFPA 54, NFPA 58, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Oversee propane training, CETP certification requirements, operational audits, incident investigations, corrective actions, and emergency response readiness.
• Establish and maintain operational standards, procedures, and best practices across all propane locations.
• Partner with Regional General Managers and Site Managers to drive a culture of safety, accountability, and regulatory compliance.
• Direct propane delivery, service, installation, maintenance, and customer activation processes to ensure safe and reliable execution.
• Improve routing efficiency, workforce productivity, fleet utilization, and overall operational effectiveness.
• Ensure operational readiness during peak seasonal demand periods through planning, forecasting, and resource coordination.
• Monitor operational KPIs and implement continuous improvement initiatives that improve customer service and execution.
• Oversee propane inventory management, supply continuity, storage facilities, bulk plants, fleet assets, tanks, cylinders, and associated infrastructure.
• Optimize asset deployment and utilization to improve productivity, customer density, and return on assets.
• Ensure preventive maintenance programs are executed on all propane assets and infrastructure.
• Support capital planning, infrastructure investments, and long-range operational planning activities.
• Partner with the Regional Sales Manager to support customer acquisition, market growth, onboarding, and retention initiatives.
• Manage operational expenses, labor utilization, fleet costs, maintenance spending, and cost-to-serve improvement efforts.
• Participate in annual planning, forecasting, and performance reviews while providing operational recommendations to senior leadership.
• Collaborate with Regional General Managers, Site Managers, Finance, Supply Chain, and Customer Service teams to support profitable growth and operational excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Associate's Degree
• Bachelor's Degree – Preferred in Business Administration, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Energy Management, or other related fields.
• Certifications – CETP (Certified Employee Training Program) – Preferred.

Work Experience

• 4-6 years – 5+ years leading multi-site operations, compliance programs, or field service organizations.
• 7-9 years – 7+ years of propane, industrial gas, fuel distribution, transportation, logistics, or field operations leadership experience.
