The Opportunity

We are seeking a Packaging Technical Design (CAD) Engineer to join our team in supporting Global Hair Care. The Technical Designer will work collaboratively with Marketing, Design, Product Supply, and R&D to bring packaging to life from play-test to production and ensure packaging designs align with brand and operational requirements. You will work with suppliers to ensure the seamless translation of designs into production-ready formats that are not only functional but also improve product appeal and sustainability!

  • Is meticulous and analytical in nature, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated to work with diverse business scenarios, prioritizing multiple priorities and have a business and consultancy mind-set, while technically savvy.
  • Can produce and present technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to listen, capture requirements and translate those into solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teams across Marketing, Design, and Product Supply, during the development of packaging concepts to understand project objectives and packaging requirements.
  • Create technical drawings using the company’s standard CAD software. Using tools such as modeling, simulation, prototyping, and data activation to develop effective packaging solutions.
  • Work with vendors, including packaging suppliers, engineering service providers, and design agencies, to understand manufacturing requirements and coordinate aspects of contracted design and engineering services. Incorporate feedback from clients and team members into design revisions.
  • Clearly communicate design concepts and modifications to team members and business partners.
  • Track project timelines and deliverables to ensure design tasks are completed on schedule. Provide regular communication on project progress and any challenges encountered.
  • Develop and refine CAD models, technical drawings, and prototypes for packaging solutions across various product lines.
  • Maintain an organized digital design library for easy access and version control.
  • Look for opportunities to enhance the package development process through digitization and data activation, propose solutions and champion adoption of agreed programs.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new materials, and advancements in CAD software to bring innovations that provide efficiencies and/or capability improvement to the company.

Required

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD software. Experienced using 3DExperience CATIA and ArtiosCAD Software preferred. Experience with other CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Unigraphics (NX CAD) etc. is a plus.
  • Experience in surface modeling.
  • Solid understanding of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and sustainability trends. Experience in design for manufacturability (DFM) and packaging testing methodologies preferred.
  • Algebraic thinking with experience on how to set up models to account for variables.
  • Statistics experience - able to design, execute, and analyze Design of Experiment (DOX) studies.
  • Familiarity with data activation, digital workflows, and machine learning such as PLM systems, cloud-based collaboration tools, Python, Pandas, SQL Databases, etc.
  • Programming experience in particular in debugging and structuring code.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Linear & Nonlinear Finite Element Method and 3D Modeling and Rendering tools (e.g., Rhino, KeyShot, Blender).
  • Experience with Git version control.

Pay Range: $85,000 -$115,000

Compensation for roles at P&G varies depending on a wide array of equal opportunity factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, degree/credentials, relevant skills, and level of experience. At P&G compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Total rewards at P&G include salary + bonus (if applicable) + benefits.
