Job summary

Brightfarms Inc. is seeking a Pack Lead for the 2nd shift (overnight) at our IL facility. The role oversees the daily packaging plan and pack crew, ensuring safe, compliant operations in a climate-controlled greenhouse environment.

You will train staff, uphold SOPs, document test results, and maintain a clean, safe work area while reporting issues to supervision and management.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of production experience
• Food industry experience preferred
• Food safety training
• Ability to read and interpret SOPs and safety rules
• Ability to maintain routine logs for food safety/inspections
• Basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide)

Responsibilities

• Supervise pack crew to meet daily plan and goals, correct errors and provide feedback
• Train crew on operating procedures with emphasis on safety and food safety
• Adhere to current SOPs, procedures, inspections, and quality requirements
• Communicate irregularities with product or equipment to supervisor
• Create daily packaging plan under supervisor guidance
• Maintain accurate records of testing and charts per guidelines
• Ensure pack area is safe, clean, and organized and sanitation is performed
• Report food safety and quality issues to supervisor or SQF practitioner

Description:

Job purpose:

Responsible for coordinating the daily packaging plan and pack crew in a safe and efficient manner. Enforces protocols and documentation as related to food safety. Follows supervisor’s instructions in adhering to standardized practices with emphasis on achieving required results.

Duties and responsibilities:

• 1. Supervise pack crew in daily operations to ensure daily plan and goals are met, corrects errors and provides feedback when needed
• 2. Train and educate crew in operating procedures with emphasis on safety and food safety
• 3. Adhere to all current SOP’s, procedures, inspections, and quality requirements
• 4. Communicate with supervisor when irregularities with product or equipment occur
• 5. Create daily packaging plan under guidance of supervisor and make decisions as instructed
• 6. Ensure accurate record keeping of performed testing and recording charts are properly documented according to company and regulatory guidelines
• 7. Ensure pack crew maintains a safe, clean, organized work area and performs periodic sanitation as required
• 8. Report food safety and quality problems to Supervisor, the SQF Practitioner or directly to Senior Management.

Qualifications:

• 1. 1 + years of experience in a production environment or related work experience
• 2. Food or agriculture industry experience preferred
• 3. Training in Food Safety and Sanitation
• 4. Ability to read and interpret documents such as standard operating procedures, safety rules, label mixing instructions
• 5. Ability to fulfill routine logs related to food safety and inspection reports, either in paperwork or digital form
• 6. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers

Working Conditions:

Coolers/Warehouse/Greenhouse. Employees will work mostly in cooler temperatures ranging between 35-55degrees. Employees will have some exposure to seasonal conditions which may range from extreme heat and humidity in the summer to cold in the winter. Often working near moving mechanical parts. There will be exposure to cleaning chemicals. The noise level of machines and cooling units can be loud. All safety gear will be provided, and expected to be used, for conditions involving extreme weather, noise and chemical exposure.

Physical requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, employees are expected to constantly use hands to finger, handle or feel, as well as talk and hear. There is frequent standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, as well as stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing. The lifting requirements to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds, and on a rotating basis constantly lift up to 10 pounds. The employee should have clear correctable vision at close and distance range, as well as peripheral vision to notice safety hazards.
