Omaha Public Schools Buffett Middle in Omaha, Nebraska seeks a Paraprofessional for the Positive Action Center (PAC) - Part Time, starting at $18.00 per hour. Work August through May when students are in session.

Primary duties include maintaining a positive learning climate, assisting with assignments, and supporting teachers. Position requires confidentiality, reliability, and ability to work with diverse students; travel is limited and equipment includes SMART boards and iPads.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or 48 semester hours (or 72 quarter hours) or proven ability to assist instruction.
• PAC or ISS/SSC experience preferred.
• Evidence of good mental and physical health.
• Ability to be a team member and follow directions.
• Reliable transportation.
• One or more years of job-related experience or its equivalent preferred.
• Excellent attendance and work record.
• Ability to work with and meet individual needs of all students.
• Ability to comply with OPS discipline, philosophy, and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Interact with PAC administrator, students, staff and parents in a courteous, professional manner.
• Record data for factual documentation, accountability, and evaluation purposes.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Perform a variety of assigned record keeping duties.
• Serve as a positive, mature role model.
• Collaborate with teachers to collect assignments.
• Maintain an instructional focus among students in the room.
• Learn alternative methods of dealing with inappropriate school behavior.
• Apply crisis management methodologies and strategies to determine hostile behaviors and ensure student safety.
• Work with a diverse student population.
• Maintain a calm and professional demeanor in all circumstances.
