Job summary

University of California San Diego Medical Centers is seeking a Physician Assistant to provide primary medical management for oncology/BMT patients under the supervision of the BMT attending physician and APP Supervisor. Qualifications

• Graduate from an ARC-PA approved physician assistant program.
• California PA license.
• Current NCCPA certification.
• BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six months of hire date.
• Minimum one year of recent work experience as a licensed PA in Oncology, BMT, Hospital Medicine/Hospitalist, Adult Critical Care, or related acute care specialty.
• Knowledge of BMT and CAR-T process and hematological blood cancers.
• Demonstrated ability to understand medical and psychosocial needs of cancer patients.
• High level of professionalism and excellent verbal and written communication; ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
• Comfort in group teaching settings and willingness to perform community outreach.

DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Blood & Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) attending physician and APP Supervisor, the Physician Assistant (PA) provides primary medical management for oncology/BMT patients. Leads by example demonstrating professional image and leadership core competencies. Acts as a liaison within the BMT Program to promote consistent medical management of the patients across the health care continuum by collaborating with the multidisciplinary care team.

Performs specialized procedures such as bone marrow biopsy, lumbar puncture and skin biopsy. Presents patient cases during daily rounds and at the weekly BMT Clinical meetings. Provides patient/family and staff education. Supports the development and revision of BMT divisional policies and procedures. Participates in and/or initiates research. Participates in community outreach and networking with community physicians and other health care professionals. May provide care to BMT patients in the outpatient center at the Moores Cancer Center. Develops and expands role responsibilities as patient and system needs change.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

• California Physician Assistant (PA) license.

• Current PA Certification from NCCPA.

• BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.

• Minimum one (1) year of recent work experience as a licensed Physician Assistant in Oncology, BMT, Hospital Medicine/Hospitalist practice, Adult Critical Care, or a closely related acute care specialty.

• Thorough knowledge of BMT and CAR-T process and hematological blood cancers, including knowledge of pathology of patient population, expected outcomes, normal and abnormal lab results.

• Demonstrated ability to understand the medical as well as psychosocial needs of a patient population with cancer.

• A high level of professionalism and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to function as part of an interdisciplinary team.

• Comfort in a group teaching setting and willingness to do community outreach.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• One (1+) or more years of working experience as a licensed Physician Assistant in inpatient Hem/Onc/BMT.

• Knowledge of administration of chemotherapy and other common blood & marrow transplant medications.

• Experience in quality improvement.

• Experience in working with Clinical Trials and ability to identify potential Clinical Trials patients.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

• Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
• Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment.
• Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two (2) years.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $170,652 - $224,815 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $81.73 - $107.67
