UCSD Physician Assistant Position

Description

The Physician Assistant (PA) will follow standardized advanced practice procedure guidelines to provide follow-through with the care plan. Assess and provide medical care appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The Senior Physician Assistant is expected to practice consistent with Professional Standards of Practice. Collaborate judgment with off-site physicians is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Under general supervision, the Senior PA performs operational duties as described in the UCSD Performance Policy. The primary focus of this position is direct patient care, managing patients with chronic and/or episodic health problems. Responsibilities may include community teaching programs, program planning, and patient education development. Additional related duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities also include assisting in surgeries across various specialties such as urology, general, and orthopedics, and assisting surgeons postoperatively with rounds, orders, care coordination, and patient discharges.

Note: While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying for this position.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an ARC-PA approved physician assistant program.
  • California Physician Assistant license.
  • Current PA Certification from NCCPA.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications at the time of hire, with a commitment to obtain ART certification within six months.
  • At least two years of inpatient first assisting experience in perioperative or surgical services.
  • Ability to perform history-taking, physical exams, identify major medical issues, and develop treatment plans.
  • Proven ability to manage a patient load independently.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic tests, exams, procedures, infection control, and medical documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills for instructing staff and counseling patients.
  • Ability to maintain organized medical records and collaborate effectively with the healthcare team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Urology.
Special Conditions
  • Ability to work flexible hours and locations as needed.
  • Successful criminal background check and physical exam required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain UCSD Medical Staff privileges. Recent clinical advanced practice experience (within last two years) is required.
Compensation

Pay Range: $153,259 - $201,889 annually (prorated if less than full-time)

Hourly Range: $73.40 - $96.69

Factors influencing salary include experience, skills, education, licensure, and organizational needs. The posted pay scale reflects the budgeted range, which may vary based on internal considerations.
