Job summary

UF Health Pulmonary – Durbin is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our outpatient pulmonary medicine team. This is a full-time, Monday through Friday role focused on ambulatory pulmonary care.

The APP will work with UF Health pulmonologists to evaluate, diagnose, and manage a broad range of pulmonary and sleep-related disorders in a physician-supported environment. The schedule offers 8:00 AM–5:00 PM with no nights, weekends, or on-call requirements.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Current Florida APRN or Physician Assistant licensure.
• Appropriate national board certification.
• Current DEA registration or eligibility to obtain DEA registration.
• Current BLS certification.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and patient-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive outpatient pulmonary care in collaboration with attending pulmonologists.
• Develop assessments and differential diagnoses based on clinical data and testing.
• Create and implement individualized treatment plans with supervising physicians.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests including pulmonary function testing and imaging.
• Prescribe medications and other interventions within scope of practice.
• Educate patients and families on pulmonary disease, medications, inhaler and PAP therapy, smoking cessation, and prevention.

Overview

Position Summary

UF Health Pulmonary – Durbin is seeking an experienced and motivated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Associate to join our outpatient pulmonary medicine team. This is a full-time, Monday through Friday position focused exclusively on ambulatory pulmonary care.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work collaboratively with UF Health pulmonologists to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage patients with a broad range of pulmonary and sleep-related disorders. The position is designed for an APP who is comfortable managing both routine and complex pulmonary conditions within a collaborative, physician-supported practice environment.

This position offers a predictable outpatient schedule with no nights, weekends, or call responsibilities.

Schedule

Clinical Responsibilities

The APP will provide comprehensive outpatient pulmonary care in collaboration with attending pulmonologists. Responsibilities include:

• Obtain comprehensive and focused patient histories and perform appropriate physical examinations.
• Develop assessments and differential diagnoses based on clinical findings, previous medical records, laboratory data, imaging, and pulmonary testing.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with supervising and collaborating physicians as appropriate.
• Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic testing, including laboratory studies, pulmonary function testing, chest imaging, sleep-related testing, and other pulmonary diagnostic studies.
• Prescribe medications and other therapeutic interventions within the APP’s scope of practice.
• Provide ongoing management of chronic pulmonary and sleep-related conditions.
• Educate patients and families regarding pulmonary disease, medications, inhaler therapy, oxygen therapy, PAP therapy, smoking cessation, disease prevention, and treatment plans.
• Coordinate care with pulmonologists, primary care physicians, specialists, respiratory therapists, sleep medicine providers, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Identify patients requiring physician evaluation, escalation of care, hospitalization, procedural intervention, or subspecialty referral.
• Maintain timely, accurate, and thorough clinical documentation within the electronic medical record.

Patient Volume

The APP should be comfortable working in an active outpatient pulmonary practice and managing approximately 18–25 patients per day, depending on patient complexity, visit type, and clinic scheduling.

Qualifications

Required

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Current or eligible Florida APRN or Physician Assistant licensure.
• Appropriate national board certification.
• Current DEA registration or eligibility to obtain DEA registration
• Current BLS certification.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and patient-management skills.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and patient-education skills.

Experience

• 1–2 years of pulmonary medicine experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience in outpatient pulmonary medicine, sleep medicine, critical care, or a closely related specialty is desirable.
