The University of Utah's Huntsman Mental Health Institute (HMHI) seeks a Physician Assistant to provide bedded outpatient Substance Abuse and Mental Health Treatment at the HMHI Adult Receiving Center. The role includes prescribing medications and delivering short-term treatment for SUD/mental health disorders within scope and state law.

The Adult Receiving Center at HMHI provides 24/7 crisis support; team-based care aims to resolve crises quickly with focused, intensive intervention and linkage

Qualifications

• Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant in Utah.
• RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system; must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians.
• Performs physical examinations.
• Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.
• Orders and supervises the administration of blood products.
• Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician for optimal patient medical management.
• Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and subspecialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
• Assists in the collection of data for research projects.
• Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.

Job Summary

This position provides bedded outpatient Substance Abuse and MentalHealth Treatment to patients in the HMHI Adult Receiving Center.This position will prescribe medications and provide short-termtreatment for SUD/mental health disorders within their scope ofpractice and according to State Law.

The Adult Receiving Center at Huntsman Mental Health Institute(HMHI) helps individuals get help during a mental health crisis 24hours a day, seven days a week. Patients are supported by a skilledteam of mental health care professionals who help patients receivecare and create a connection to community resources.

The interventions are short, highly intensive, and focused onresolving mental health crisis in the least restrictive mannerpossible. This approach leads to better patient outcomes with lowercost to an emergency room visit due to reduction of unnecessaryinpatient care.

Care is individualized to the needs of each patient:

• Crisis evaluation focused on understanding individual needs.
• Psychiatric assessment of a person's mental health condition.
• Medication prescribing, if needed, for stabilizing symptoms.
• Solution-focused therapy, peer support, and case management.
• Recommendations for next steps and connection to ongoingsupport.
• Crisis observation, if needed, for up to 23 hours.

• Orders consultations and interacts with members of otherspecialty medical teams.
• Participates in special projects and committee functions.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

• Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant from theState of Utah.
• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through theUniversity of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to beobtained within 30 days of hire.
