JOB SUMMARY

Under direct supervision, performs duties related to program and facility supervision at the Jerry Blackwell Sports Complex at Gahagan. Reports to the Recreation Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supervise facilities (fields, press box, playground, parking areas, etc.) that are in use during evening programs.
  • Coordinate with umpires, coaches, players, commissioners, etc. to ensure that all leagues and facilities operate efficiently and all policies/procedures are appropriately adhered to.
  • Assist concessions employees and part time maintenance workers with any issues that may arise, communicating any problems to the Recreation Coordinator and/or Assistant Director.
  • Ensure that all games/programs start and end at the appropriate times(s), in adherence with Town policies.
  • Monitor weather and field conditions, postponing or cancelling games as necessary, in an effort to minimize the chance of serious injury/damage to players or fields.
  • Provide basic first aid and/or contact emergency personnel, in the event of player/patron injury.
  • When in use, ensure that press box users are adhering to all policies and procedures.
  • Guide patrons to exits or provide other instructions/assistance in case of emergency.
  • Provide assistance with patrons’ special needs (ex. Patrons with wheelchairs).
  • Maintain neat, clean and orderly work space.
  • Performs general clerical duties as required, including preparing reports and correspondence.
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Applicant should have outstanding customer service skills and “people skills”, to include professionalism and confidentiality. Should be flexible and have the ability to multi-task and troubleshoot various situations. Applicant should have good organizational and administrative skills, computer, program software experience and phone answering experience as well as clerical, filing and front desk experience. Applicant should have self-motivated and proactive. Position requires days, nights, weekends and some special event hours. Red Cross CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Recreation Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the P/T Recreation Supervisor position.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and technology; skill in the use of computers for word and data processing.
  • Knowledge of how to maintain effective relationships with personnel of other departments, professionals, and members of the public through contact and cooperation.
  • Skill in applying extreme attention to detail as necessary in preparing records, reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to interact with the community, specifically customers for program registrations, and participate in discussions to gather information for improving the services provided.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public and deal with the public in a professional manner.
  • Ability to offer assistance to co-workers and employees of other departments as required.
  • Ability to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize daily assignments and work activities.
  • Ability to handle required mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to read and interpret various materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job.
  • Ability to assemble and analyze information and make written reports and records in a concise, clear, and effective manner.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires light work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
